Lebanese voters could elect Hezbollah
07.06.2009
Lebanese voters went to the polls in an election that could bring Hezbollah to power.
The elections began at 7 a.m. Sunday. Polls will remain open for 12 hours.
Some 128 seats are up for election. An Iranian-backed, Hezbollah-led alliance could win a majority in the parliament for the next four years, according to reports. Results are not expected until Monday.
Hezbollah currently serves in Lebanon's government.
Still, the United States has said that future aid to Lebanon will be determined based on the new government formed after these elections.
