The Chairman of the Jewish community of Armenia, which is a part of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, EAJC General Council member Rimma Varjapetyan has been awarded the Movses Khorenatsi medal.

The 80th anniversary of the Jewish Autonomous Region of Russia were held in Birobidzan with EAJC support. The many exuberant performances in Birobidzhan’s venues created a colorful festival program, which hosted delegations from many countries, including Israel, Chinea, and the USA, as well as leaders of leading Russian and international Jewish NGOs, including the Director General of the Federal Jewish National Cultural Autonomy (FJNCA) Evgeniya Mikhaleva.

On April 28, the Armenian Jewish community gathered for a memorial rally near the Memorial to Victims of the Holocaust and Armenian Genocide, which had been erected in the center of Yerevan in 2006.

Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Secretary General Michael Chlenov participated in the annual educational conference Limmud Moscow.

The exhibition hall of the “Polina” Almaty Jewish Charity Center is hosting a personal exhibition of the famous Kazakhstan photographer Mikhail Sorokoumov, titled “That’s how life goes...”

 

On April 7-10, Almaty hosted the republican madric seminar, organized by the Jewish community of Kazakhstan, which is a member of the EAJC, and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. Over twenty young madrichim, future specialists in working with children in teenagers, took part in the seminar. They were from nine Kazakhstan cities.

A series of memorial events tied to the 90th anniversary of the important Kazakhstan writer Moris Davidovich Simashko took place in Almaty. The Mitzvah Association of Jewish Communities and Organizations of Kazakhstan took an active part in organizing the memorial events.
